New Rules - Public Consultation

Social Justice Tribunals Ontario (SJTO) is introducing new Common Rules of Procedure which will apply to all tribunals in the SJTO. SJTO is releasing drafts of the new rules and related practice directions for public review and feedback. The new rules are available on the SJTO website and by following the link below. The public is invited to review and provide written comments on the proposed changes by May 31, 2013. Common Rules are grounded in the core adjudicative values and principles of the SJTO which govern the work of the cluster.

Consultation on proposed amendments to three Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) Practice Directions and the Rules of Procedure

The HRTO is releasing proposed amendments for review and comment by members of the community and its stakeholders to:

Human Rights Code amended

Bill 33, An Act to amend the Human Rights Code with respect to gender identity and gender expression, came into force on June 19, 2012.

The Bill amends the Human Rights Code to specify that every person has a right to equal treatment without discrimination because of gender identity or gender expression with respect to,

(a) services, goods and faciliti

Responses to Questions Submitted by the Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act Alliance

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Alliance has asked the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario for information as the Alliance prepares its submission to the Independent Review of the Human Rights Code being conducted by Andrew Pinto. So that all individuals and organizations may have access to this information, the HRTO has posted its responses below.

Social Justice Tribunal Clustering

In December 2009, the Adjudicative Tribunals Accountability, Governance and Appointments Act 2009, received Royal Assent. The Act allows government to cluster tribunals and agencies with common stakeholders and related issues in order to improve public services. The regulation for the social justice tribunals cluster was passed on January 25, 2011.

Early Mediation Dates

The HRTO sometimes has dates available for mediation due to late rescheduling requests, adjournments or settlements. You can ask for an early mediation date if all parties have agreed to mediation and you are able to agree on dates within four weeks of your request.

Please make your request for an early mediation date by sending an email to the Registrar, copied to all other parties, and using the following format for the subject line:
