Welcome to the web site of the HRTO. This site is your gateway to the Tribunal, where you will find our Rules of Procedure, policies, practice directions, forms and user guides. These materials provide detailed information for parties and their representatives appearing before the Tribunal.
The Human Rights Code represents fundamental principles upon which our society is based. The Tribunal plays an important role in ensuring that those rights have real meaning. To do this, we have developed processes designed to be accessible and understandable.
The community must have confidence that Tribunal staff and members will treat each party with respect and address each Application in a fair and timely manner. Applicants, respondents and intervenors have the opportunity to be heard in a process that is accessible, fair, and based on the law and jurisprudence.
Michael Gottheil, who led the Tribunal as Chair for several years, has been appointed to lead the Environment and Land Use Planning Cluster of Tribunals. Under his leadership and vision, the HRTO took on and embraced its new role of resolving human rights applications filed with it, and providing timely, neutral effective dispute resolution and the highest standards of client service.
The nomination of a permanent Chair will be made following a competitive process. Until then, I look forward to serving as Interim Chair and providing leadership in accordance with the Tribunal’s core values, mission statement, and established model of dispute resolution.
On behalf of our members and our staff, I give you our commitment that we will continue to work hard to meet the community’s expectations.
Yours truly,
David A. Wright
Interim Chair
